Baked Apple Mulled Wine
for approx. 6 cups
- 750 ml white wine
- 600 ml apple juice
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 3 cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise
- 1 vanilla pod
- 2 apples
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 150 ml Calvados (a golden apple brandy from Normandy)
- Place a large pot on the stove and pour in the white wine, apple juice, and lemon juice.
- Slowly heat on medium heat. Add cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise to the mixture.
- Meanwhile, split the vanilla pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add both the seeds and pod to the pot.
- Bring everything to a boil once, then let it steep.
- Wash and core the apples. Slice them or use a star-shaped cutter to make small apple stars.
- Put the apple pieces, sugar, and Calvados into a pan, heat on medium, and let simmer for 7 minutes.
- Add this mixture to the pot with the mulled wine and stir well. Let everything steep for another 5 minutes.
- Serve and enjoy the baked apple mulled wine.
