Baked Apple Mulled Wine

Ingredients

for approx. 6 cups

  • 750 ml white wine
  • 600 ml apple juice
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 2 apples
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 150 ml Calvados (a golden apple brandy from Normandy)

Preparation

  • Place a large pot on the stove and pour in the white wine, apple juice, and lemon juice.
  • Slowly heat on medium heat. Add cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise to the mixture.
  • Meanwhile, split the vanilla pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add both the seeds and pod to the pot.
  • Bring everything to a boil once, then let it steep.
  • Wash and core the apples. Slice them or use a star-shaped cutter to make small apple stars.
  • Put the apple pieces, sugar, and Calvados into a pan, heat on medium, and let simmer for 7 minutes.
  • Add this mixture to the pot with the mulled wine and stir well. Let everything steep for another 5 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy the baked apple mulled wine.
