The “Klosterweg” circular trail can be hiked from both monasteries. One possible starting point is the Machern monastery, a former Cistercian nunnery near Zeltingen-Rachtig. It is located almost opposite the Hotel Deutschherrenhof, on the other side of the Moselle. At the start of the hike from Machern Monastery, you first pass the so-called Trinity, which is considered to be the oldest pre-Christian cultural site on the Moselle. Other highlights include the Siebenborn monastery and numerous beautiful views of the Lieser and Moselle valleys. We recommend a detour to the “Grainskopf” - a viewing tower on the Wehlener Plateau. From here, you not only have a view of the Moselle valley but also of the new B50neu high Mosel crossing.
